Before repair
Here is the mantle cover that needed repair:
The lining was badly torn on the inside lower front and back, and the velvet was ripped at the top of the side slits, with part of the lower fringe damaged (lower left in photo).
In addition, the appliqué and beadwork were frayed, damaged, or missing elements:
The lining was sewn directly into the velvet cover, and the lined velvet tube was hand-sewn to the edge of the head board. So the whole cover needed to be disassembled in order to replace the lining. The beadwork etc. on the front panel can be repaired while the panels are separated.
